When was the last time you felt itching in your eyes? Or saw redness when you looked in the mirror?

dry_eyes.jpg Or, is the better question, “When was the last time you even felt relief from these constant, annoying symptoms?”

If problems like these are a chronic issue that you can’t find relief from, you may be dealing with a long-term eye condition that requires medical intervention. This holiday season, Everett And Hurite is looking to help people dealing with these uncomfortable symptoms - symptoms that may be the result of a condition known as dry eye.

Understanding Dry Eye

Dry eye is a common eye issue that can strike at any age, even in individuals who are otherwise healthy. People who are dealing with dry eye often experience uncomfortable symptoms that are a direct result of their eyes losing the ability to properly produce tears. Instead, their eyes create tears that may evaporate too quickly, or which lack the consistency necessary to keep eyes hydrated and functional.

At Everett And Hurite, our staff have made it our mission to emphasize the seriousness of dry eye. Not only is it an uncomfortable condition that interferes with the ability to carry out daily tasks, such as reading your email - it’s a potentially debilitating one. Tears aren’t just a byproduct of certain emotions - they’re a necessary part of good eye health. Many people experience inflammation of the surface of the eye when they’re dealing with dry eye. Worse, without treatment, dry eye can lead to ulcers or scarring on the cornea of the eye - and may even impact one’s quality of vision!

The Signs Of Dry Eye

So, how does someone know if they’re dealing with dry eye? While the term “dry eye” implies that the primary symptom is a sense of dryness, it’s not the only symptom. You may be dealing with dry eye if you’ve experienced any of the following symptoms as well:

  • Excess tearing
  • Eye fatigue
  • Eye Discharge
  • Pain
  • Light sensitivity
  • A gritty sensation
  • A feeling of a foreign body or sand in the eye
  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Blurring of vision
